"The Golden Age of Doctor Who...

...begins today!" writes Bill Albert, founder of the UNIT group.

"Friday March 17th 2006 at 8:00 p.m. central time to be exact.

Many observers have considered the "golden age" of Dr. Who to have
been in the 1980's with the tremendous success of the series on
virtually every PBS station in the US and all across the
world.  Those were great and exciting times that, with no doubt, have
made what's happening now possible but, as the saying goes, "You
ain't seen nothin' yet!"

As fans of the series we have really the best of both worlds here in
Iowa right now.

Sci-Fi channel has embraced the series whole hearted and will give it
the best chance it could possibly get to capture an entirely new
American audience.  If you look behind the scenes it would appear
that Sci-Fi is gearing up to take the series for the long haul with
all the promotions that they have done.  There is also the time slot
to take in to consideration.  New episodes of SG-1 and SG-Atlantis
will be starting in July about the same time the first series
finishes and with new Galactica not coming until October there is the
perfect window to get caught up with series two.

I have to admit I am a bit jealous of those of you who will be
experiencing the new show for the first time in the next few
months.  Oh, what great fun you are going to have with the series and
just when you think it can't get any better it will do just that.  To
paraphrase Mae West "you better hang on with both hands cause it's
gonna be a bumpy ride!"

On IPTV we've had an incredible pledge drive with $12,759 pledged to
keep the original series coming at two episodes a week.  It is also
exciting to see that 3196 votes, or dollars, were in favor of the
Hartnell stories and 1135 for Troughton.  Together they were just
under 150 votes short of Tom Baker.  Either way it  shows there is
still plenty of interest in the originals series as well as the new.

For Dr. Who fans lucky enough to live in this part of the world it
is, as Dickens would say, "the best of times."

Enjoy and celebrate.

Bill
